Phewa's Story

I forgot to tell Phewa's story.  She is 20 years old with a CD4 count of 190 which is just below 200 which means that she has just transitioned from HIV to full blown AIDS.  One of the volunteers, Carina, has arranged for her to get a wheelchair which means she can go home, although it is only a matter of time before she is back.  Phewa contracted HIV because she was raped, and had never even had sex before.  Her mother visits her very rarely and she suspects it is because her stepfather abuses her mother so much.
Surprisingly, Phewa is full of life and is so sharp and witty.  It is important that I write her story so that there is some document or proof she and it existed.  Because one day she will not exist to tell it herself and that day is fast approaching.  Because, there are stories within the folds of stories and if one is not careful, they are as lost as the people who live and breathe them.  And that would be the ultimate tragedy.
This week...Phewa got her wheelchair.  She will be going home soon!
